Experience #1 Visual literacy/ visual representation - Art in humanities

Much like many of my other experiences, this one also takes place during my freshman year of college. During my freshman year of college I was really determined to fulfill my general Education classes instead of actually pursuing a major which now I realize wasn't the greatest of ideas, but hey we live and we learn I guess (lol @ me having to be a super senior). One of the general education classes that I took was an 'Art in Humanities' class where we learned about the history of art throughout civilization and how it created different social movements. Here is a list of most of the artists that we covered:
Salvador Dali
Andy Warhol
Grant Wood
Jeff Koons
Richard Long
Paul Etienne Lincoln
Henri Matisse
Erte (Roman de Tirtoff)
Zaha Hadid
Agnes Martin
Willie Birch
Shana Moulton
Ansel Adams
Ronald Ventura
Banksy
Pablo Picasso
Brancusi
Wolfgang Tillmans
Barnett Newman
Owyed Alowyed
Alexey Titarenko
Paul Villinski
The Guerrilla Girls
Francis Picabia
Li Qing
Avni Arbas
Diego Rivera
Alex Grey
Sidney Hutter
Steve McCurry
Rosalyn Drexler
Kara Walker
Takashi Murakami
Dan Flavin
Alex Beard
Chelsea Culprit
Carolee Schneemann
Rene Magritte
Ralph Meatyard
By learning about all of these I learned about how art is a powerful thing in this world and can start/end whole movements in civilization. We did projects based off of certain artists artworks and put our own twist on them to change the meaning of what we being told visually through our artwork. I think that I could use this knowledge to maybe take a break from writing papers and reading books and allow students in my class to express themselves using an art project and tell a story through the artwork rather than words themselves. This class in total opened my eyes to how literacy is not always just in words written on paper, and that is something that is not always recognized.
